The wild herb and wet-stone complexity of this extraordinary dry riesling is compelling, and together with the very stony acidity it drives the wine over the palate. So intense and forthright that it feels like a big wine, yet when you look at it closely it is actually medium-bodied and extremely focused. Super-long finish. Drink from release. Screw cap.
The 2024 Karthäuser Laubenheim Riesling Trocken is intense and floral rather than fruity on the pure yet intense nose that represents the Rotliegend terroir of the cru perfectly well. Full-bodied, elegant and generous yet refined on the palate, this is a mouth-filling and textural, seemingly soft yet on the finish vital, savory and persistently mineral Riesling with enormous vitality and stunning acidity. There are plummy notes on the aftertaste and fine tannin grip. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in July 2025.
