Owner Eddy Le Garrec has been in the wine business for over 25 years. Born and raised Paris, France, he moved to Los Angeles in his mid-20s and became part of the booming American wine scene of the 1990s.
As a wine educator, he introduced and updated "Le Nez du Vin" for wineries and wine schools across the country, helping students and professionals develop their olfactory skills and deepen their understanding of wine.
Eddy later opened W Wine Boutique in Miami, which became Florida's leading retailer for fine wines and Champagne. The store was recognized by Wine Spectator as an "Outstanding Wine Shop." He eventually sold the concept to SAQ Canada.
After the expiration of a three-year national non-compete agreement, Eddy Le Garrec took over the Back Label location and reintroduced the successful W Wine Boutique concept to New York City under the name Empire State of Wine.
Since opening in New York, Empire State of Wine has become a trusted destination for collectors, enthusiasts, and newcomers alike.
Empire State of Wine has also earned international recognition for the quality of its selection, receiving Wine-Searcher Gold Medals for Best Champagne Selection in New York and Best Bordeaux Selection in New York for three consecutive years.
