James Suckling: 99 Points
This chardonnay is lightly salty, limey and chalky, with incredible depth and purity. It’s stony and austere but so engaging, full of minerals that contribute to its texture and volume. It has fullness but not fleshiness, and good length. So idiosyncratic. The chalkiness is like finely ground eggshells and seashells on your palate. Fermented in used barrels. 12.5% alcohol. 6,500 bottles made. Drink or hold.

Talinay is the name of a modest coastal range within the Limarí area, and also the name of the only vineyard planted there, situated on limestone and clay soils just seven miles from the cold Pacific shore. The 2023 Chardonnay Talinay Caliza is harvested from the vineyard's most calcareous soils, encompassing only 0.7 hectares of clonal material. Fermented and aged for ten months in barrels, this yellow wine with a greenish sheen unfolds pure pear and green apple aromas with hints of hazelnut, mint and lime. Initially dry, rich and fairly concentrated on the palate, it transitions into a saline, compact profile with a long-lasting finish and plenty of energy. This is a coastal Limarí Chardonnay at its best, crafted in a cold vintage for the area.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
The 2023 Talinay Caliza is the second vintage of this single-block bottling, deriving from a particularly limestone-laden section of Talinay. It offers another level of intensity, transparency and stoniness from the Talinay bottling, leading with a clean, radiant nose of citrus rinds and oyster shells. The palate echoes this clarity in high-definition, with a silky texture that seamlessly transitions to a chalky, weightless, persistent finish. This has quickly become a benchmark Chardonnay for Chile, and I look forward to tracking its aging trajectory.
