2018 was a year of unusual freshness for Garnacha, and the 2018 La Viña de Ayer clearly shows it. The grapes come from old vines in different parts, orientations and soils (granite and slate) of Cebreros at 750 to 1,060 meters in altitude and were hand-picked by soil and altitude between September 5th and 25th. Fermentation was mostly destemmed, but some lots had 30% full clusters, after one night in a fridge at zero degrees Celsius, and with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured in 1,500-liter oak vats for 12 months and was only racked once. This has a super stony, mineral nose, more than any of the other reds here. It's more austere and serious than the rest, more about the soil than the variety, fine and elegant. This is sharp and very stony, really serious, a wine that transcends its price. It should develop beautifully in bottle. It's by far the finest vintage of this wine.
