Cloves, dark fruit, leather and savory complexity. Youthful, velvety tannins with crisp acidity, a full body and a spicy finish full of blond tobacco and coffee grounds. Drinkable after a year or two, but best from 2031.
Raffaele Vecchione
Rich and sleek in the sensory profile it shows notes of black plums, wild myrtle, lavender, hibiscus, green mandarin peel and toasted hazelnuts. Full body, perfectly ripe tannins and a finish of great grace and personality. Simply stunning. Drink now or age.
Made with Cabernet Sauvignon, the Mazzei 2021 Philip is soft and richly textured with all sorts of blackberry and black fruit aromas packed inside. These come through with special intensity in this balanced vintage. The wine style is contemporary and easily accessible for an international palate. Philip Mazzei (1730–1816) was a contemporary of Thomas Jefferson, and this 40,000-bottle release is dedicated to this important family ancestor. Drink: 2024-2035.
Aromas of black cherry and pepper add a bolt of energy to a nose that's otherwise defined by umami, savory notes of top soil, dark chocolate and coffee grinds. The palate is layers of blackberries, chocolate and more black cherries, but that peppery earthiness also endures. Carefully constructed, fine-grained tannins tame an electric current of acid on the finish.
