Perfectly in balance with the bright acidity and refined tannins leaving a long detailed aftertaste of fruit mineral and savory elements. Shows superb intensity from start to finish. The 2021 Barolo Aleste is off-the-charts gorgeous. Vertical and explosive in the glass with tremendous energy the 2021 possesses unbelievable richness married to vibrant energy. Plum black cherry gravel lavender and mocha soar out of the glass. Readers will find a Barolo of stature and breeding. - By Antonio Galloni on January 2025 This is a magnificent set of wines from the Sandrone family. Magnificent. Like pretty much all producers the Sandrones have gradually evolved their thoughts on viticulture and winemaking. That includes a greater focus on freshness and vibrancy. On a more technical level Sandrone has begun to experiment with stems. The difference here is that changes are implemented gradually so that they are barely noticed over long periods of time. The 2021 Barolos are some of the very best wines of the year. They benefit from a long-ish growing season and a light elegant hand in the cellar. The wines saw 14-20 days on the skins and then 22 months in French oak tonneaux. The Barolo Vite Talin sees submerged cap fermentation followed by two years in tonneaux and a third year in cask.

With fruit from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard the 2021 Barolo Aleste is a lavish and beautiful expression with dark fruit spice licorice cola and blue flower. The house style is always fruit-forward and bold at the Sandrone family estate but you can also count on the wines to show excellent contouring with oak spice soft richness and texture thanks to expertly applied tonneaux aging. The balance is impeccable. Production is 10000 bottles. Starting with the 2019 vintage the team at Luciano Sandrone is adding a five-liter format of its Barolo Le Vigne to the other large formats that currently include double magnums and magnums.

A reflective red color the 2021 Barolo Aleste leads with compelling and introspective notes of sandalwood ripe cherries hints of truffle and fresh leather. The palate is supple and has a vibrant spine of acidity mouthwatering mineral accents and an underlying noble structure. As I am finding with the top producers in this vintage the tannins demand time but also have a sweetness to them that makes the wines highly pleasurable to taste now and they should improve and age very well. Drink 2027-2050.

Pine forest ripe dark-skinned berry blue flower and carob are just some of the aromas you'll find on the stunning 2021 Aleste. Made with Nebbiolo from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard it's delicious full-bodied and shows great verve delivering layers of ripe Morello cherry cake spice licorice mocha and crushed mint set against a backbone of velvety tannins. Give this time to fully develop. Drink 2031–2046.
