James Suckling: 96 Points
Lots of spice and tobacco along with a slew of black cherries and a touch of plums on the nose. Lots of power, structure and darkness, but the acidity keeps this very bright. Still tightly wound and firm at the finish, in the best sense. This was the last vineyard Drouhin picked in 2021. Best from 2025.
Burghound: 96 Points
94-96 Here the restrained nose is cooler and not quite as ripe on the fresh aromas of rose petal, spiced tea and a broad array of mostly red berry scents. The intense medium-bodied flavors aren't quite as dense but they are finer while flashing focused power on the strikingly long, even explosive, finish that just goes on and on. This is a seriously impressive and very classy example of a Clos de Bèze that embodies power without weight.
Vinous: 95 Points
93-95 The 2021 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is more backward than the Griotte, almost introspective with dark berry fruit, tobacco and tertiary scents. Just a touch of spice emerges with time. The palate displays very fine structure, good backbone, quite peppery towards the finish with a long tail. Whilst not as gregarious as the Griotte, this has a simmering intensity that I appreciate.
