Old vines, planted between 1924 and 1960. Super fragrant black stones and black pepper with a very, very spicy array of black fruit and hints of mocha (from 100 per cent new barriques). This has a super powerful core of tannin, built from the inside out. The small-berry power here is compelling – old vines favor skin over juice – giving intense black fruit and a schist spark at the finish. Really pops! Pure, complete and wildly powerful. Vivid purple. Sexy, deeply perfumed aromas of dark fruit preserves, exotic spices, smoky minerals, peony and olive paste. Densely packed and alluringly sweet, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, bitter cherry, floral and spicecake flavors that show superb delineation and a spine of juicy acidity. Shows excellent clarity and minerally lift on the chewy, strikingly persistent finish, which eventually leaves behind cherry liqueur and floral notes.
