The 2022 Freeman Russian River Valley Pinot Noir brings structure and elegance together in a beautifully balanced way. Sourced mainly from the estate Gloria Vineyard (89%) with a smaller portion from the cooler Pratt Vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills, this wine reflects a vintage shaped by unusual weather. Cold and wet conditions during bloom in late May, followed by intense heat in late summer, led to smaller clusters that ripened quickly. Harvest came early on August 19th, the earliest ever for the Gloria Vineyard. Blue and black fruits are like sweet wild berries and layered dark florals with a hint of orange pith. There’s a savoury edge, too, from dried herbs, black tea, and the scent of fresh, wet leaves after rain. It’s robust, but not heavy. The mouthwatering acidity is framed by firm tannins that promise great ageing potential. Akiko Freeman believes these wines hit their peak around year seven, and this one feels like it’s on that path.

A fresh and lively pinot noir with sliced strawberries and lemons on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Lots of energy and brightness for a Russian River pinot. Love the drinkability. Drink now.
