Jeb Dunnuck: 95 Points
The 2019 Saint Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint Joseph is a blockbuster, offering a monster bouquet of meaty black and blue fruits as well as black olive tapenade, bacon fat, and leather. It picks up a distinct sense of minerality with time in the glass and is full-bodied, has an opulent, expansive mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This powerful, deep, sexy, heady Saint Joseph offers incredible pleasure today, yet I have no doubt it will keep for 10-15 years. The alcohol is listed at 15.5% on the label, but it's balanced, has beautiful purity, and a great sense of freshness, all pointing to this evolving beautifully.

A lush, fruity version, with waves of warmed plum compote, braised fig and blackberry confiture rolling through, scored with ganache, singed alder and warm earth on the broad and well-defined finish. (JM)
Vinous: 94 Points
Opaque magenta. Potent, mineral- and smoke-accented cherry, cassis and potpourri scents, along with suggestions of olive and licorice. Offers ripe, appealingly sweet red and blue fruit preserve, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors with a hint of cracked pepper. Finishes very long, smoky and smooth, with gently gripping tannins and repeating florality.
