A brilliant Châteauneuf-du-Pape that oozes class and finesse, Bravay’s 2010 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a traditionally made blend of close to 97% Grenache, with the remainder an assortment of varieties. Aged all in tank, it boasts a complex array of sweet red berry fruits, white pepper, wild flowers, and licorice that flows to a full-bodied, seamless, and elegantly put together wine that has beautiful concentration, incredible purity, and very fine, polished tannin that frame the finish. Lovers of traditionally made Châteauneuf-du-Pape should not miss this and it is the essence of Grenache when made in a more feminine, elegant style. It is certainly superb now, yet will be even better in 3-5 years, and shine for 15-20 years.
Falstaff
Intense ruby garnet, purple reflections, broad watery rim. Notes of black berries with fine ethereal nuances, hints of sage and mint, some nougat, attractive bouquet, delicate savoury touch. Juicy, ripe cherries, fresh acidity, silky tannins, almost light-footed, lively, animating style, shows a very good length, already approachable today, mineral finish, multi-faceted aftertaste.
Even better than the 2009, this super wine has it all. The fruit is fabulous. It's ripe, sweet and fresh, with layers of cherries, black raspberries and kirsch. The texture is pure lushness. The wine is balanced, rich and like all great Southern Rhone wines, you can enjoy it now, or age it for more of a secondary, evolved experience. There is no touch of heat, this is just pure Chateauneuf pleasure.
Deeper in color than the 2009, yet more backwards and reserved, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is still incredibly young and structured, with notes of black currants, licorice, crushed rock and iron, full-bodied richness, building tannin and a huge finish. It should start to be approachable in another 2-4 years and have three decades of overall longevity.
