Lying on one of the highest parts of Montalcino's southeast hillsides, the signature character of Biondi-Santi is the extreme freshness of fruit and firm acidity. It is a guarantee for the long haul, and not often an immediately approachable style. The Rosso does not differ from Brunello in this regard, instead the selection of younger vines enhances even more the fresh character of the wine. Now the estate is on the market with its 2017 vintage, while the 2018 will be released not before this summer. 2017 was a warm vintage, dry and powerful, and this wine is focused on red currants and pomegranate, with black pepper and earthy tones. Medium bodied, it is definitely better on the palate than on the nose. A cherry flavour shines, and it displays super-refined tannins and lifted acidity.
